Shutter Speed Usage

x Getting blurry shots? Slow shutter speed is one of the main reason of blurry shots. As a rule of thumb, your shutter speed should be faster than the reciprocal of your focal length(35mm equiv.). For example, if you are using a 50mm lens, then your shutter speed should be at least 1/50 to avoid camera shake. However, using a lens with vibration reduction/image stabilisation allows us handhold our lens at much slower shutter speed, while using a tripod eliminates camera shake problem.

Aperture Usage

x Want a creamy blurry background? Aperture controls the depth of field of an image. A wide aperture(small F-number) gives a shallow depth of field.

ISO Speed Rating

x Got noisy images? Try to use a lower ISO sensitivity.

Focal Length(35mm equiv.)

Focal Length(Real Focal Length)

x What is 35mm equiv.? This is a fair comparison of field of view if you have camera of different crop factors.
